In the College of Nursing, we employ a holistic approach to advising, focusing on the overall development of our students. This approach guides our services to ensure a well-rounded support system for our students’ academic and personal growth. The Advisor will use helping techniques and activities to help students explore their options, make educational plans and decisions, and integrate their academic and life aspirations. The Advisor will also be a dedicated and motivated professional who has a high level of intercultural competence and is comfortable working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities
Assist students in the exploration of their goals, interests, strengths, values, and concerns through positive, open-ended questions and intentional advising strategies through various approaches
Teach students how to assess their degree progress through graduation
Educate students about curriculum, progression and admissions requirements, supplemental programs, and opportunities.
Assist students throughout their undergraduate experience in developing academic plans that meet goals and future aspirations
Communicate effectively with assigned advisees
Offer academic advising services in various ways and modalities (e.g., appointment, virtual, drop-in, groups, email, etc.)
Develop and facilitate outreach plans to assigned advisees and faculty.
Participate in outreach activities such as speaking to classes, presenting programs in LLC’s and residence halls, and supporting recruitment activities
Collaborate with key partners internal and external to CON to provide robust academic advising support to students
Conduct first- year and transfer student orientation advising sessions
Facilitate the petitioning process for students pursuing curriculum exceptions
Refer students to campus resources, programs, and support systems that promote academic success, career development, experience learning, and engagement in a chosen discipline
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree required, or enrolled in a Master’s degree program to be completed within 12 months of hire
Knowledge of academic advising best practices/theories and student learning and development theories
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication.
Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate change.
Administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to complete simultaneous projects.
Evidence of team building skills that foster collaboration and ability to interact with a broad base of individuals (administration, faculty, staff, clinical partners, students, etc.)
Computer literacy and strong skills with digital literacy tools.
Willingness to learn new systems, programs, skills and other information.
