03112 RN Intensive Care Unit STRHS-Lawrenceburg Job Description12.07.22 Report to the Director, the staff RN is a professionalcare giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for agroup of patients for a designated time frame and provides care tothose patient via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, theenvironment/instrumentation, and other healthcare team members. Ifassigned as charge nurse, will serve as resource for coordinationof activities on the unit. Responsibilities as charge include, butnot limited to, assessment of unit needs, available resources forcurrent and oncoming shift(s) based on patient acuity, volume,individuals and family needs and special clinical procedures orinterventions pending.

X 02 Professionals Essential Functions ? Performsplan of care intervention, including medication administration,specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medicalcare treatment. Documents patient care given. Monitors, records,and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team,physician, patient, and family. Assists patients with performingactivities of daily living, including personal hygiene,elimination, nutrition, and ambulation. Collaborates as neededacross disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patienttransfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial supportneeds. Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family andprovides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture,condition, and circumstances. Works as an advocate for the physicaland emotional well-being of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge andapplication of the nursing process Plans and implements patientcare and teaching based on the total assessment and the age of thepatient. Develop plan of care that is individualized for thepatient needs reflecting collaboration with other members of thehealthcare team, the patient, and the family as appropriate.

Evaluates and documents the patient response; monitors andrecognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takingappropriate action based on the assessment of the patient.

Participates and cooperates in the unit-based Quality Improvementprocess. Supports, maintains, and provides an environment which issupportive of quality patient care based on best practice using aholistic approach to care, and by adhering to effectively usingresources and personnel. Practices, develops, and endorses customerservice skills in relationships with internal and externalcustomers. Serves as patient and family advocate with respect tothe patient’s right to privacy, autonomy, and dignity by protectingconfidentiality of information. Formulate individualized teachingand educational plan based on identified learning need and evaluatethe effectiveness of learning including the patient and family asappropriate. Enhance professional growth and development throughparticipation in educational programs, current literature,in-service meeting, workshops and shows responsibility for ownprofessional practice and ongoing education.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements ? Minimum Education Must posses a current and active Registered Nurse License in theState of Tennessee. Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and theability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in astressful environment and take appropriate action.

RequiredSkills Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support(ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (BLS certification may be obtained within first week of orientationbefore patient care) (ACLS and PALS may be obtained within the first 3 months of hire)

Required Skills Licenses:

Current and active Registered Nurse License in the Stateof Tennessee.
