03130 RN OR/Surgical Services STRHS-Lawrenceburg Job DescriptionReport to the Director, the staff RN is a professional care giverwho assumes responsibility and accountability for a group ofpatients for a designated time frame and provides care to thosepatient via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, theenvironment/instrumentation, and other healthcare team members. Ifassigned as charge nurse, will serve as resource for coordinationof activities on the unit. Responsibilities as charge include, butnot limited to, assessment of unit needs, available resources forcurrent and oncoming shift(s) based on patient acuity, volume,individuals and family needs and special clinical procedures orinterventions pending. If the employee holds a current and activelicense as a Registered Nurse First Assist in the State ofTennessee, they may asked to practice within the scope andstandards of practice as directed by the department director.

Provides direct patient assessment to patients using the nursingprocess in accordance with applicable scope and standards ofpractice.

X 02 Professionals Essential Functions ?Performs plan of care intervention, including medicationadministration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as wellas other medical care treatment. Documents patient care given.

Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition asappropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family. Assistspatients with performing activities of daily living, includingpersonal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patientcare, including patient transfer, discharge, referral andspiritual/psychosocial support needs. Evaluates learning needs ofpatient and/or family and provides patient/family educationappropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances. Works asan advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of thepatient. Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursingprocess Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on thetotal assessment and the age of the patient. Develop plan of carethat is individualized for the patient needs reflectingcollaboration with other members of the healthcare team, thepatient, and the family as appropriate. Evaluates and documents thepatient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiologicaland psychosocial status; taking appropriate action based on theassessment of the patient. Participates and cooperates in theunit-based Quality Improvement process. Supports, maintains, andprovides an environment which is supportive of quality patient carebased on best practice using a holistic approach to care, and byadhering to effectively using resources and personnel. Practices,develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationshipswith internal and external customers. Serves as patient and familyadvocate with respect to the patient’s right to privacy, autonomy,and dignity by protecting confidentiality of information. Formulateindividualized teaching and educational plan based on identifiedlearning need and evaluate the effectiveness of learning including the patient andfamily as appropriate. Enhance professional growth and developmentthrough participation in educational programs, current literature,in-service meeting, workshops and shows responsibility for ownprofessional practice and ongoing education.

RequiredSkills Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) within 1 week of hire andbefore supporting patients independently. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) & Pediatric AdvancedLife Support (PALS) may be obtained within 6 months of hirefollowing new hire orientation.

Required Skills Licenses:

Current and active Registered Nurse License in the Stateof Tennessee.

Minimum Education Licenses:

Current and active Registered Nurse License in the State ofTennessee is required. Current and active Licensed Registered Nurse First Assist ispreferred.
