03114 RN Med/Surg STRHS-Lawrenceburg JobDescription Copy Report to the Director, the staff RN is aprofessional care giver who assumes responsibility andaccountability for a group of patients for a designated time frameand provides care to those patient via therapeutic use of self, thenursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and otherhealthcare team members. If assigned as charge nurse, will serve asresource for coordination of activities on the unit.

Responsibilities as charge include, but not limited to, assessmentof unit needs, available resources for current and oncomingshift(s) based on patient acuity, volume, individuals and familyneeds and special clinical procedures or interventions pending.

  • Demonstratesknowledge and application of the nursing process
  • Plans andimplements patient care and teaching based on the total assessmentand the age of the patient.
  • Develop plan of care that isindividualized for the patient needs reflecting collaboration withother members of the healthcare team, the patient, and the familyas appropriate.
  • Evaluates and documents the patient response;monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocialstatus; taking appropriate action based on the assessment of thepatient.
  • Participates and cooperates in the unit-based QualityImprovement process.
  • Supports, maintains, and provides anenvironment which is supportive of quality patient care based onbest practice using a holistic approach to care, and by adhering toeffectively using resources and personnel.
  • Practices, develops,and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internaland external customers.
  • Serves as patient and family advocatewith respect to the patient’s right to privacy, autonomy, anddignity by protecting confidentiality of information.
  • Formulateindividualized teaching and educational plan based on identifiedlearning need and evaluate the effectiveness of learning includingthe patient and family as appropriate.
  • Enhance professionalgrowth and development through participation in educationalprograms, current literature, in-service meeting, workshops andshows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoingeducation.
Qualifications:

Job Requirements ? Minimum EducationMust posses a current and active Registered Nurse License in theState of Tennessee. Required Skills Requires critical thinkingskills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimalsupervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment andtake appropriate action.

Required Skills Certifications:

Basic LifeSupport (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), andPediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are required. (BLS may beobtained within first week of patient care following orientation)(ACLS & PALS may be obtained within six months of patient carefollowing orientation)

Required Skills Licenses:

Current and activeRegistered Nurse License in the State of Tennessee.
