Job Overview:
Provides nursing services/maintenance health treatments to students as directed by the Supervisors. Procedures are to be carried out according to the Nurse Practice Act as directed by the State of Tennessee Licensing Board.
Job Functions:
Works with teachers to ensure that medications are administered to students per doctor’s orders.
Acts as a consultant to teachers in the county responsible for carrying out medical/health related procedures, i.e., catherization, ileostomy/colostomy bag changes, etc.
Works as part of 504 assessment team to develop and implement educational programs for children.
Assists in developing and implementing inservice education programs dealing with health-related issues (i.e. AIDS education, medical implication of health/physically handicapping conditions, blood borne pathogens).
Conducts home visits and parent conferences as necessary to facilitate programming for handicapped or suspected handicapped students.
Coordinates school and community health services for students.
Assists principals in health-related matters with regular student body as necessary (i.e. talking with teachers, calling parents, checking for lice, assisting in medical emergencies).
Coordinates occupational and physical therapy programs for students.
Monitors records of students who are certified as health impaired or physically disabled.
Assists as necessary with the system’s blood borne pathogen control plan.
Such other duties as assigned by Supervisors.
