School Nurse at Midway Elementary 4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 130 Laurel Bluff Road, Kingston, TN 37763 School Nurse (LPN) Quali fications: LPN Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a current good standing Tennessee Practical Nursing License or other legal credential required Current certification in CPR BLS for Healthcare Provider 3 years of nursing experience (pediatric experience is a plus) Critical thinking skills Proficiency in enteral feedings, catheterizations, and diabetic monitoring preferred Physical ability to endure extended periods of standing, walking, running, sitting and/or stair climbing. Ability to push/lift/carry up to 40 pounds. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred Ability to communicate with teachers/parents/children Professional appearance Dependable transportation to site Reports to:

Principal Performance Responsibilities:

Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing as directed by Health Services . Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs. Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects. Maintains confidential, up-to-date cumulative health records and documentation on all students. (per HIPPA guidelines) Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures. Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases. Participates in in-service training programs and Continuing Nurse Education. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools. Performs job duties under the supervision of Lead Nurse. Perform responsibilities according to the Nurse Practice Act and Roane County Schools Policy and Procedure Manual. Administers medication and treatments to students as ordered by physicians. Consult with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed. Seek assistance if unfamiliar with ANY procedure. Works collaboratively with other departments, resources and other school nurses. Function as an Educational Assistant/Front Office Assistant when not performing Health Service duties. Report to work location assigned by Supervisor, which may require departure from base school location as needed. Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships with the school environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.
