Bridge to Specialty Program Outline Months 1-6: Focus on Med Surg/Telemetry residency orientation, Successful completion of Med Surg/Telemetry competency assessment & didactic education, Performs at or above expectation, Anytime following the sixth month of residency, the RN resident may seek approval of the unit manager and/or unit director to begin a six – month bridge to specialty. Months 6-12: Graduate Nurse will complete two 12 hour shifts monthly, with a preceptor on a preferred specialty unit for a six month period, Didactic specialty education completed in Learnshare, Specialty competency assessment, Upon successful completion of a minimum of 12 months of employment in the Med Surg/Telemetry Nurse Residency program, and six months in the Bridge to Specialty program, the RN resident has the option to say on the Med Surg/Telemetry unit or transfer to specialty to complete the remaining shifts of specialty orientation, i.e. Critical Care Specialty orientation accelerated by four weeks.
