TravelNurseSource is working with Magnet Medical to find aqualified ER/Trauma RN in Barre, Vermont, 05641! Pay Information$2,335 per week About The Position The Registered Nurse (RN) in theEmergency Room (ER) provides critical care to patients in urgent oremergent conditions. The RN in the ER works in a fast-paced,high-pressure environment, delivering immediate care to patientssuffering from injuries, illnesses, or trauma. They assess, triage,and treat patients in collaboration with physicians, nursepractitioners, and other healthcare professionals, ensuring thebest outcomes in a dynamic setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Triageand Patient Assessment:
Perform initial assessments of patientspresenting in the ER, including triaging based on the severity oftheir condition. Evaluate patient history, conduct physicalassessments, and identify urgent health issues to prioritize care.
Collect patient vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse,respiration) and other relevant data to determine immediate careneeds.
Emergency Care and Treatment:
Administer medications,fluids, and treatments as prescribed, including intravenous (IV)fluids, antibiotics, pain management, and other emergencymedications. Perform wound care, splinting, suturing, and otherinterventions as needed for trauma or injury patients. Provideemergency life-saving interventions, including CPR, advancedcardiac life support (ACLS), and trauma care. Assist inresuscitation efforts, including managing ventilators, intubation,and defibrillation when necessary. Collaboration with
Medical Team:
Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other teammembers to develop and implement patient care plans. Assist withdiagnostic testing, such as lab work, imaging (X-rays, CT scans),and electrocardiograms (ECGs), based on patient needs. Communicateclearly and efficiently with the healthcare team, updating them onchanges in patient status and discussing care options.
Monitoringand Documentation:
Continuously monitor patients’ conditions,noting changes in vital signs, mental status, and symptoms.
Document all patient assessments, treatments, and outcomesaccurately in the electronic health record (EHR). Ensure compliancewith legal, regulatory, and hospital standards for patient care anddocumentation.
Patient and Family Communication:
Provide clearexplanations to patients and their families about diagnoses,procedures, and treatment plans. Offer emotional support topatients and families experiencing stress or anxiety due to medicalemergencies. Advocate for patients’ needs and coordinate care withother departments to ensure timely interventions.
Infection Controland Safety:
Follow strict infection control protocols, includingappropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to preventthe spread of infectious diseases. Ensure the ER environmentremains safe and sterile for both patients and staff. Respond topotential biohazardous situations with proper precautions andprotocols.
Crisis Management:
Handle a wide range of patientemergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions,using critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills. Managehigh-stress situations effectively, staying calm while providinglife-saving interventions. Prioritize care based on patient acuityand available resources, ensuring efficient use of ER staff andequipment.
Patient Discharge and Follow-Up:
Provide dischargeinstructions and explain the next steps in care, includingmedication instructions, follow-up appointments, or referrals.
Educate patients on preventive measures and care after discharge,especially in cases of trauma or chronic conditions.
Teamwork andMentorship:
Collaborate with emergency room staff, includingphysicians, nurses, support staff, and paramedics, to ensurecoordinated patient care.
