- Hybrid work Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Intake Specialist to join our team.
The Intake Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience by managing administrative tasks, scheduling appointments, and handling patient inquiries. This position requires strong organizational skills and a thorough understanding of terminology and medical scheduling practices. Duties 1. Verifying demographic and insurance information entry into PM (Practice Management – Billing) system(s). 2. Verify all required documentation has been collected and uploaded to system(s) appropriately. 3. Verifying medical insurance coverage and benefits for new and established patients. 4. Contact insurance company(s). 5. Obtain prior authorization as needed. 6. Collaborate with clinic personnel to relay patient information and facilitate a smooth transition to scheduling. 7. Identify opportunities for process improvement within the intake workflow and contribute to the development of streamlined procedures. 8. Stay up to date and comply with healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) and the ACA (Affordable Care Act). 9. Follow guidelines set by Medicare, state programs, and HMO/PPOs. 10. Ability to learn and work with multiple different EMRs (Electronic Medical Records) and PM (Practice Management – Billing) systems. 11. Knowledgeable in office procedures and computer software(s) (i.e., word, excel, email, etc.). 12. Knowledgeable in medical insurance company guidelines and operations. 13. Professional, clear, and concise communication. 14. Cross training with applicable department team members to serve as backup/coverage when needed. 15. Adhere to all ALCC (Alabama Cancer Care) policies, procedures, regulations, and compliance standards. 16. Conduct duties in a professional and timely manner. 17. Perform other duties as assigned. - High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a healthcare setting.

- Clear understanding of insurance-related terminology and processes.

- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficient in utilizing Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, Practice Management systems (PM), and IT skills for efficient workflow.

- Ability to work collaboratively, in a fast-paced team environment.
- Adaptability to evolving processes and procedures.
