Summary of Job Duties:
The Trauma Registrar is responsible for data collection, both abstracting and analyzing, data entry, data validation, maintenance, and reporting of data for the Arkansas designated Level 1 Trauma Center as required by the Arkansas Department of Health, and the National Trauma Data Bank. The trauma registrar shall utilize the data for injury research, epidemiology, injury prevention and performance improvement.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED, plus four (4) years of work experience in an acute care hospital, database management, or office administration OR Associate Degree in Information Technology, HIM, Business, or Health Care PLUS two (2) years’ work experience in an acute care hospital or health care setting in database management. Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes, as well as ICD-10 Trauma registry experience Proficient in Outlook, MS Word, and Excel
MOI, AIS/ISS, ICD-10
coding experience Demonstrates strong analytical skills; strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent organizational skills Self-directed to accomplish tasks and goals required
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree CSTR, or CAISS national certification desired within 3 years of employment

Collects and accurately enters trauma patient information into the trauma registry in a timely manner Assigns and scores all injuries utilizing the AIS and
ICD-9/10
Classification of Diseases Reviews trauma patients’ clinical records across the continuum of care, including EMS reports, the Emergency Department, Surgery, and inpatient records, and applies appropriate Mechanism of Injury (MOI) and operative codes Ensures compliance with National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and Arkansas Trauma Registry (ATR) required standards Facilitates monthly/quarterly analysis to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. (Data entry within 60 days of discharge) Triages case severity and assigns work load product amongst registrars Uses NTRAC Database software program to generate reports for research and quality improvement of the Trauma Center Performs coding oversight and validation of ICU/Death/Complication cases completed by Trauma Registrar I Initiates process of inter-rater reliability in a systematic review Maintains confidentiality of patients and employees information in verbal, written, and electronic format Collaborates with Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Medical Examiner’s office Completes Performance Improvement primary issue documentation following a taxonomy template and assists with identification of patient hospital events Participates as an integral team member in the maintenance of and preparation for review of the Level 1 Trauma Center Works collaboratively with physicians, coworkers, management and other departments
