JOB SUMMARY
Arranges for the efficient and orderly admission ofinpatients and admission of individuals who have hospital-basedoutpatient testing or procedures. Ensures that the patientinformation is collected and that patients are aware of hospitalpolicies and procedures. Distributes appropriate information toancillary departments. Reports to the Patient Access Supervisor.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Responsible for registeringpatients for hospital services from a physician’s office andpre-admitting these patients a needed. Responsible for admittingrequirements for patients scheduled for admissions and outpatientprocedures, obtaining authorization and verifying insuranceeligibility. Responsible for interviewing patients or theirrepresentative, obtaining personal information or verifyinginformation already on file, including emergency numbers andinsurance information. Responsible for interviewing patients ortheir representative, obtaining personal information or verifyinginformation already on file, including emergency numbers andinsurance information. Provides information to thepatient/representative about billing, complaint process, patientrights, and HIPAA. Distributes hospital specific literature.
Responsible, when previous arrangements have been made or aco-payment is required, to collect such payments, record paymentand forward to the Business Office personnel. Responsible forknowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital servicesthat are available. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible,organized and function well in stressful situations. Treatspatients and their families with respect and dignity; ensuresconfidentiality of patients’ records. Interacts professionally withpatient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance asnecessary. Maintains good working relationships both within thedepartment and with other departments. Ensures that documentationmeets current standards and policies. Answers the telephone in apolite manner and communicates information to the appropriatepersonnel/family member. Performs other related duties as assignedby the Patient Access Supervisor.
BASIC SKILLS
Basic computerknowledge. Ability to type accurately with speed Able to use officemachines efficiently Excellent customer services skills.
EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE
High School graduate or equivalent. Prefers someonewho has at least 6 months experience in a medical office orhospital setting.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Able to communicate effectivelyin English, both verbally and in writing. Additional language aplus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 40lbs. Must be ableto stoop, bend, or sit for long periods of time.
