Job Summary:

The Patient Access Center Representative is responsible for providing superior customer service; strong communication skills, active listening, typing, comprehension, and basic medical office terminology is required. Sitting, typing, talking, and listening while experiencing background noise can be expected in the Access Center. This position is Full Time. M-F, 8 am- 5 pm. Vacation/PTO and benefits are offered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide professional and courteous customer service, promoting a positive patient experience. 2. Log in/out of ACD system appropriately. 3. Answer telephone calls for multiple sites and specialties in a timely manner. 4. Schedule appointments and assist caller according to established protocol. a. Register new patients; verify insurance is active, send message to insurance verifier and/or referral coordinator. b. Update demographics and insurance for established patients. c. Schedule appointment per protocol and make notations regarding reason for visit. d. Advise patient of necessary information needed at time of appointment. 5. Complete “warm transfer” to other Mount Sinai Doctors staff when required, and relay pertinent information effectively. 6. Send messages to staff via EHR. 7. Use good judgement to distinguish between non-emergent and emergent calls, and notify appropriate physician, manager, or staff accordingly. 8. Investigate and return previous days abandoned calls when instructed. 9. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications Proficient in English and Spanish Strong computer skills for data entry tasks Prior experience in a medical office setting Excellent communication and phone etiquette Ability to multitask and analyze information effectively Familiarity with medical terminology and patient care processes
