JOB SUMMARY

As a Medical Assistant, you will perform routine clinical and administrative duties. Your warm and welcoming demeanor puts patients at ease throughout their visit by providing support during diagnostic examinations, treatment, drawing blood and facilitating communication with staff and to the physicians. Is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the GI department; coordinating work within the department as well as with other departments; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries and requests from staff personnel, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

Perform various clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information in the GI department as illustrated by the following: a. Maintenance tasks relating to chart order, chart accuracy, and chart current data. b. Keep all necessary lists and schedules. c. Answer the telephone in a professional manner; direct calls to appropriate individuals, and/or take messages. d. Stock departments with office and medical supplies daily; prepare requisitions to maintain established inventories. e. Fax and photocopy information as needed. f. Contributes to the cleanliness and orderliness of the department. B. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit. C. Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary. D. Prepare patients for visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the appropriate area. E. Assist with cleaning and preparing of the GI suites prior to patient coming into the room. F. Coordinate specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as within other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information. G. Respond to inquiries relating to his/her particular area within given timeframes and within established policy. H. Participate in computer training and assume gradually increasing computer-related responsibilities. I. Participates in appropriate in-service training drills.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

Education High School graduate or equivalent. Licensure/Certification Medical Assistant Certification CPR Certification Experience Minimum of 2 to 3 years of directly related experience, previous experience in a hospital or ASC, familiarity with computerized systems, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
