Job Description
Overview The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient administration of credentialing and medical staff processes. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities Meeting Coordination:
Plans and schedules medical staff meetings, ensuring all arrangements (room, catering, A/V setup) are in place. Collaborates with department chairs and hospital staff to prepare agendas and manage follow-up actions.
Credentialing & Compliance:
Reviews, screens, and processes initial and reappointment credentialing applications for accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. Conducts primary source verification and maintains up-to-date licensure and insurance documentation.
Data Management:
Maintains accurate practitioner information within medical staff and hospital systems, ensuring compliance with credentialing standards and hospital policies.
Administrative Support:
Attends required meetings, records minutes, composes correspondence, and processes references for credentialing applications.
Education & Training:
Stays current on industry standards and computer software applications to enhance efficiency.
Safety & Compliance:
Adheres to infection control measures and hospital safety protocols.
Communication & Information Management:
Provides information to the public regarding medical staff practitioners, informs leadership on new appointments, and liaises with physicians and office staff as needed.
Record Keeping:
Tracks licensure, DEA registration, malpractice insurance, and practitioner privileges while maintaining an accessible and organized filing system.
Professional Development:
Engages in ongoing professional learning, including active membership in the North Carolina Association of Medical Staff Services and attending annual meetings. Qualifications Minimum requirements – High school Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred in Human Resources, Medical Staff Services or Business preferred.
