GENERAL HOSPITAL IS ADDING A PART-TIME REGISTRATION CLERK TO OUR TEAM!
This position has a variable schedule of day, evening and overnight shifts, as well as rotating weekends and holidays.
JOB DUTIES
Schedules patient admissions/ services received through physicians’ offices or the Emergency Care Center. Obtains the required information to pre-register/register the patient in the computer from either they physician’s office or the patient. Arranges for pre-admission testing as necessary, including autologous blood donations Verifies that precertification/authorization has been obtained prior to the admission/service, and enters this information in to the computer system. Assist in the precert process by initiating the call and providing demographic information for ECC patients who require inpatient or ODS procedures. Procures necessary patient signatures as required by third party payers, including but not limited to, assignment of benefits, MSP forms, ABN’s Consent to Treat etc. Performs all related registration functions such as printing of registration forms and their distribution, addressograph plates, patient bracelet. Processes discharges and transfers as necessary Verifies insurance benefits for designated services prior to the service date. Enters test requisitions for designated services such as lab, imaging, ECC, ODS, Rehabworks, etc. Order complicated Lab tests – Transplant patients. Calculate and collect co pays at time of service and process payments on outstanding accounts. Use credit card machine for co-pays. Escort’s patients to their destination if needed. Assists with insurance follow up, and miscellaneous clerical functions. Enters the ICD-9 codes into system as appropriate for Medicare medical necessity. Enters patient charges as required by department. Access database is maintained for lab standing order patients. Assists with other clerical functions of the department where they are located. For example (Imaging): film jacket retrieval, preparation of films for release/retrieval, bar coding requisitions, answering of phones, etc. Appropriately address the Financial Responsibility form for self-pay patients. Ability to function out of multiple modules ie. Scheduling, Admissions, Order Entry, Imaging Transcription Services and Medical Records Module. Scan patients ID and insurance cards, order, consents and all related forms for Electronic Legal Record. Maintain the ability to recognize and correct the wrong selection of the patient from the Master Patient Index during the triage process. Handle police and legal blood alcohol testing, order and complete legal forms. Receive and count cash daily; register cash amounts and accounts. Ability to work “on line” for insurance verification of eligibility and to inquire about the patients authorization status.
WORK/ EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school graduate or equivalent required. Secondary education in medical field preferred. Good understanding of medical insurance and terminology; will be tested. 45 wpm minimum typing skill with high accuracy; will be tested. Excellent communication and customer service skills, including telephone etiquette. Willingness to work flexible hours and accept flexible assignments as needed.
