Description:

 Healthy Routines is a nonprofit focused on neighborhood poverty, addressing it through affordable housing, professional development, and educational opportunities (including currently and formerly incarcerated individuals). Therefore, one of Healthy Routines’ key initiatives is the South Carolina Coalition for Higher Education In Prison (SCCHEP) which serves incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people seeking higher education in South Carolina. We partner with colleges, universities, and nonprofits to expand postsecondary educational opportunities and support people on their educational journey.

Position:

 Academic Reentry Coordinator (ARC) – SCCHEP Healthy Routines is seeking four motivated and dynamic individuals to join our team as Academic Reentry Coordinators (ARCs). In this key role, as part of the SCCHEP initiative, the ARCs will provide highquality educational and reentry services to individuals preparing for release from South Carolina Correctional Facilities, as well as those seeking support postrelease. The ARC will collaborate with SCCHEP partner programs to support students in their educational journey. The position provides direct services to students through coaching, advising, and technical support to postsecondary education partners. The ARC will provide workshops and information to incarcerated students on accessing higher education pre and postrelease and will facilitate seamless transitions to enable students to continue and complete educational goals when they are released. Finally, the ARC will be responsible for student intake, data tracking & reporting . This is a multifaceted role that demands collaboration with internal teams and various stakeholders and a commitment to student success. The ARC will regularly enter prison facilities and work closely with postsecondary institutions, the Department of Corrections, Healthy Routines, and SCCHEP leadership team including Operations Administrator and Program Director to ensure programmatic success.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This will be a fulltime Hybrid position, 35 days a week inoffice. A set work schedule will be determined by Operations Administrator and Program Director in conversation with the Healthy Routines/SCCHEP’s CoChairs. Hours may include evenings and/or weekend time slots, not to exceed (40) forty hours per week. Significant, regular travel across the state will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Workshops on

Higher Education:

Design and deliver introductory workshops to groups of incarcerated students on pursuing higher education pre and postrelease, including regulations around higher education in prison.

PretoPostRelease Student Coaching & Mentorship:

Provide guidance and develop personalized education plans for incarcerated students, assist students with understanding college admissions, navigate Pell applications, and pursue postrelease educational opportunities.
Work with Colleges on Navigating Reentry Support : Support partner programs through student reentry support and navigating success points on a student’s reentry journey. Support higher education in prison programs, providing tailored support as programs navigate regulations associated with effectively serving the student population.

Outcome Tracking & Reporting:

Collect data on student success, report to the executive team, and ensure compliance with grant reporting standards. Performs other duties as assigned/requested.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

An associate degree is required, and a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Minimum of two years of support services experience in an individual or group setting.
Exceptional case management and group facilitation skills.
Experience with correctional facilities and reentry settings preferred.
Ability and willingness to travel one or more hours to prison facilities at least two and up to four times per week.
Must be able to obtain approval from the Department of Correction to enter a correctional facility.
