THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Medical Administrative Associate 1 is the first point of contact for patients at the UT Hearing & Speech Center. This position performs patient admissions and registration, patient financial services and data entry, specified routine duties such as greeting patients, answering routine inquiries, and general office support activities as appropriate. Greets and checks in patients, answers phones, processes referrals, and schedules appointments. Reviews new patient paperwork for proper completion and updates existing information in the patient information system. Processes patient payments and posts to account. Verifies patient identity and insurance coverage. Matches purchase agreements after the order have been placed for new hearing aids or repairs and files a copy in the patient chart (EMR) and the vendor folder. Processes referrals for scheduling and tracking. Works with insurance companies and other agencies to obtain benefit verification and authorizations for services including new hearing aids and hearing aid repairs. Orders prescribed hearing aids from manufacturers. Schedules follow-up appointments. Prepares daily collections reports. Matches invoices to logged information and routes invoices for payment. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT

)
EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience in an office setting using an electronic medical record and/or accounting system; OR a combination of experience and education to equal two (2) years. (Prior experience in audiology is preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent computer skills including competency in Microsoft Excel and Word and accuracy in typing and data entry. Experience with computerized patient management or accounting systems. Ability to read both printed and cursive writing. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to maintain a friendly demeanor and exhibit tact and professionalism both in person and on the phone. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
