The Registered RespiratoryTherapist (RRT) is responsible for the standard and advancedrespiratory care procedures for patients suffering from variouscardiopulmonary disorders and for performing other examinations andprocedures as directed. A Brief Overview The Registered Respiratory Therapist(RRT) is responsible for the standard and advanced respiratory careprocedures for patients suffering from various cardiopulmonarydisorders and for performing other examinations and procedures asdirected. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLHMission, Vision and Values. What you will do Performs routinerespiratory therapy procedures including

IPPB, O2

therapy, andhumidity/aerosol therapy in an assigned area on patients.

Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care for assignedpatients and provides ventilatory support to patients receivingcardiopulmonary resuscitation. Performs advanced respiratory caretechniques, including but not limited to: invasive pressuremonitoring, including ICP, pulmonary artery catheters, cardiacoutput determinations, administration of Nitric Oxide, and othergases. Assists physician in insertion of catheters as needed.

Performs arterial blood gas collection through line draws orpunctures. Performs patient assessment and reassessment throughobservation of the patient, clinical data gathering, response totherapy and reports findings accurately making referrals toappropriate disciplines as needed. Provides educational developmentthrough guidance and teaching and serves as a technical resourceperson to the patient, patient’s family, physician, students andother hospital staff regarding respiratory care procedures.

Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factorsand performs preventative and routine maintenance on respiratorycare equipment and instruments. Participates indepartmental/hospital continuous improvement opportunities.

Supervision Provided bythis Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilitiesassigned to this job, except that the incumbent may demonstratevarious job responsibilities to other Associates or respiratorycare students. Physical Demands Invasive and non-invasive patientcontact throughout shift. Possible exposure to patient body fluids.

Ability to react quickly in emergency situations. The physicalactivities of this position may include climbing, pushing,standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping,and repetitive motion.
