• The RegisteredRespiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for the standard andadvanced respiratory care procedures for patients suffering fromvarious cardiopulmonary disorders and for performing otherexaminations and procedures as directed. A Brief Overview The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for thestandard and advanced respiratory care procedures for patientssuffering from various cardiopulmonary disorders and for performingother examinations and procedures as directed. Models appropriatebehavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. What you will do Performs routine respiratory therapy procedures including IPPB,O2 therapy, and humidity/aerosol therapy in an assigned area onpatients. Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care forassigned patients and provides ventilatory support to patientsreceiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Performs advancedrespiratory care techniques, including but not limited to: invasivepressure monitoring, including ICP, pulmonary artery catheters,cardiac output determinations, administration of Nitric Oxide, andother gases. Assists physician in insertion of catheters as needed.

Performs arterial blood gas collection through line draws orpunctures. Performs patient assessment and reassessment throughobservation of the patient, clinical data gathering, response totherapy and reports findings accurately making referrals toappropriate disciplines as needed. Provides educational development through guidance and teachingand serves as a technical resource person to the patient, patient’sfamily, physician, students and other hospital staff regardingrespiratory care procedures. Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safetyfactors and performs preventative and routine maintenance onrespiratory care equipment and instruments. Participates in departmental/hospital continuous improvementopportunities. Supervision Provided by this Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned tothis job, except that the incumbent may demonstrate various jobresponsibilities to other Associates or respiratory carestudents. Physical Demands Invasive and non-invasive patient contact throughoutshift. Possible exposure to patient body fluids. Ability to react quickly in emergency situations. The physical activities of this position may include climbing,pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling,stooping, and repetitive motion.
