The Respiratory TherapistII is responsible for medication administration and implementingrespiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and theevaluate-and-treat process. The RT II is responsible for deliveringpatient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations.

The majority of time is in critical care areas with protocolventilator management, significant independent decision-making andself direction. In addition, to patient care delivery, the RT II isresponsible for patient, family/support system education,coordination of activities, staff development, and professional andself-developmental activities. The RT II is responsible forproviding patient care with an understanding and awareness ofpopulation specific needs. The RT II addresses the biological,emotional, and developmental, psychosocial, and patient/familyeducation needs when providing care to the patient. Alsoparticipates in the education of new employees and others.

CoreResponsibilities and Essential Functions:

Provides Customer Service-Completion of patient care, documentation and education

  • Performs patient assessmentassessment for therapy
  • Collaborates with health care team membersin planning patient care

  • Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation; airway management (intubation,extubation, trach tube change and care
  • Performs arterial bloodgas sampling analysis
  • Educates patient and mentors/precepts newemployees, students and peers

DPPs Required Minimum Education:

Graduate of anaccredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP)with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. RequiredAssociate’sDegree A.S. degree required RequiredBachelor’s DegreePreferredRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): Allcertifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. RequiredMinimum Experience:

Ability tocommunicate well, critical thinking skills, establish and maintainworking relationships with physicians and other health careprofessionals, and computer skills including familiarity withdatabases.
