JobSummaryPerforms duties necessary to treat patients in accordancewith the physician’s order and departmental policy. Worksindependently in all acute and critical care settings. Consultswith physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations ontreatment as appropriate.

Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general andcritical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order,departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines orprotocols. Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring all types ofinvasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Analyzes and reports results accurately. Initiates and manages all types of airways and associatedequipment. Documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures andtasks and provides patient and family education asappropriate. Communicates with all members of the healthcare team to includestudents and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and completereport. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates wellwith supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of theabove. Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performsappropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipmentbetween patients as indicated by equipment type and isolationstatus. Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies,time/productivity, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/ManagementResponsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor,manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements Education•Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory CareProgram by an accredited school Experience•No experience required.

Required Certifications, Registrations,Licenses South Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner•TemporaryLicense Full Respiratory Therapist Certification including RegisteredRespiratory Therapist (RRT) from NBRC must be obtained within 6months of hire BLS Other certifications dependent on work unit:
NRP, PALS, ACLS,NPS ACLS
required within the first year for adult care areas NRP and PALS required in the Children’s Hospital prior toworking independently in the NICU and PICUKnowledge, Skills andAbilities Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to includeinfants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
