Job Description

We are looking for a Respiratory Therapist to join our caring,compassionate team. Respiratory Therapists evaluate, direct, plan andprovide treatments for patients with respiratory disabilities to helpthem achieve a maximum level of functional independence. Documentpatient care and results of treatment, appropriately in the medicalrecord to comply with policies and procedures of the department andregulatory agencies. The successful candidate will work within theirentire scope of practice, ensuring the utmost in competent care andsafety is consistently delivered to all residents.

  • Under thedirection of a physician, has exclusive control of ordered mechanicalventilation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the weaning process.
  • Activelyparticipate with physicians and other healthcare team members in thedevelopment of care plans by serving as consultants in regard torespiratory therapeutic and diagnostic modalities.
  • Evaluate and assessresidents, recommend appropriate therapy when indicated, identifyphysicians’ orders and determine if there are any contraindications totherapy.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of respiratory care to include initialassessment and reassessment of resident response to therapy, treatmenteffectiveness, monitoring of vital signs. This includes recognizingchanges from norm for the age specific population served.
  • Performdiagnostic studies on residents to include: ABG acquisition andinterpretation, nocturnal pulse oximetry, pulse oximetry with exerciseand standard pulse oximetry.
  • Provide all forms of airway care toinclude: tracheostomy tube changes and trach care, suctioning, insertionof nasal and oral pharyngeal airways and evaluation of residents forartificial airway discontinuance.
  • Perform as a member of the cardiacarrest team to include Basic Life Support. Relates appropriate emergencyprotocols and maintains basic life support as necessary for appropriateresident population.
  • Support ventilation as needed during transportsbetween rooms, to and from therapy or activities and to other hospitalsor medical offices.
  • Administer all treatment modalities to include:facial/nasal CPAP, Bipap, chest physiotherapy, aerosol administration,in exsufflation and all forms of low and high flow oxygen therapies.
  • Assist in the education of all respiratory rehab residents and theirfamilies regarding respiratory and pulmonary disease management.
  • Provide daily maintenance, cleaning and monitoring of ventilators andadjunctive equipment to ensure that equipment is operable and in safeworking condition.
  • Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate of anaccredited AMA program for Respiratory Therapy.
  • Must hold a currentlicense as a Respiratory Therapist in Massachusetts.
  • Credential fromthe National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Certified in CPR (Basic LifeSupport).
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand theEnglish language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independentdecisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess theability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members,visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Musthave patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, and be willingto handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they arecurrently functioning.
