DESCRIPTION

The Manager of Respiratory Care performs a variety of duties, under the general direction of the Director. The manager will be responsible for the daily management of the respiratory team. Other areas of accountability include financial management, quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service. The Respiratory Manager investigates policy and procedure violations, analyzes departmental data, assists in developing departmental budgets, prepares performance appraisals, and controls the efficient procurement and use of equipment and supplies. The Respiratory Manager also serves on departmental and hospital committees and assists in developing continuous quality improvement programs. Additionally, the Respiratory Manager delegates tasks to team members, encourages continuing education of all personnel, and participates in specialized skill training programs in an effort to promote the provision of high quality services.

RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Leadership
a. Develops departmental policies and procedures that ensure the prudent and efficient provision of high quality health care services. Monitors the application of departmental and organizational policies and procedures, investigates policy and procedure violations, reviews relevant incident reports, and recommends appropriate action.
b. Reviews and controls the efficient procurement and use of equipment. Ensures that periodic equipment maintenance is carried out in a prudent and efficient manner that controls hospital costs and ensures patient safety.
c. Communicates well with team members, physicians and other leaders within the health care team. Addresses all concerns appropriately and in a timely manner to ensure that quality respiratory care is provided. 2. Program Management and Daily Operations
a. Interfaces with laboratory and MIS/CIS to troubleshoot hospital computer system in an effort to ensure optimal system performance and compliance with established computer standards.
b. Assists in the development, coordination, and monitoring of new departmental programs and services in an effort to increase program performance and identify ways to improve upon the quality and efficiency of health care service delivery.
c. Analyzes departmental data, prepares reports, and monitors departmental records. 3. Performance Improvement and Quality
a. Consults with physicians and subordinates on technical respiratory care issues in an effort to promote the efficient provision of high quality patient care and health care services.
b. Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance through participation in staff educational programs, approved continuing education courses, and specialized skill training programs.
c. Promotes and encourages the growth and development of staff members by encouraging their participation in approved continuing education activities such as professional conferences, seminars, and workshops. Advocates continuing education as a means of promoting the high quality services provided by all departmental personnel.
d. Assists in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement programs and participates in multi-disciplinary continuous quality improvement efforts. Assists in ensuring that all services provided by the department are performed with compassion, understanding, and respect for others. 4. Other Duties As Assigned
a. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience
5 years’ experience as a Respiratory Therapist with 2 years supervisory experience as supervisor, charge or lead tech or other healthcare leadership experience. Education
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program Special Skills
Must possess excellent knowledge of the respiratory therapy profession, the Cardiopulmonary System and all that it encompasses including procedures, ventilator management and blood gas management. Must possess excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, organization, time management and prioritization skills. Licensure
BLS Certification, ACLS within 1 year of hire, Registered Respiratory Therapist with National Board of Respiratory Care, and Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Job Identification
