  • Duke Regional’sRespiratory Care team provides services for a 22-bed ICU and a50-bed Emergency Room as well as medical, surgical, neurology,oncology, and cardiovascular general care areas.
  • The teamprovides services for Level II Nursery, Labor and Deliveryservices, Rehabilitation unit, and Behavioral Health unit.
  • DukeRegional’s Respiratory Care practice includes intubation, criticalcare bronchoscopy, blood gas iSTAT testing, PFTs, heliox/nitricoxide therapy, EKGs, ventilator management by therapist protocoland consultation in interdisciplinary rounds in additional tostandard Respiratory Care therapeutics.

Job DescriptionPerform diagnostic andtherapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory CareServices scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordancewith physician orders. Defined duties are performed in adultpatient populations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Administer oxygen,aerosolized medication via Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing( IPPB), Intermittent Aerosol Therapy (IAT) and Metered DoseInhaler ( MDI) and incentive breathing devices.

Perform nasotrachealand artificial airway suctioning, CPR and bag

  • mask ventilation,pulse oximetry monitoring, arterial blood gas punctures and bedsidepulmonary mechanics.

Diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures,pulmonary function studies, EKGs and cardiac monitoring.

Assurecorrect set-up, safety and function of all equipment/ suppliesnecessary in the provision of patient care.

Assure adherence to allinfectious disease standards in the delivery of all patient careprocedures.

Understands pharmacological indications, dosages andresponse to adverse drug reactions.

Provides education to patients,families, physicians, nursing and other members of the health careteam.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work describedherein.

Required Qualifications at this LevelEducationCompletion ofa 2 year CoARC accredited respiratory care program (AssociatesDegree or the equivalent) or currently enrolled in a

  • CoARCaccredited
  • Respiratory Care Program, and registryeligible.

ExperienceNone requiredDegrees, Licensure, and/orCertificationNorth Carolina State Licensure or North Carolina StateProvisional License, Certification by the National Association forRespiratory Care (NBRC) if graduate.

In new graduate is CRT, mustobtain RRT within 6 months of employment

  • Certification in BasicLife Support ( BLS), and any other applicable certificationsapplicable to the institution.

Knowledge, Skills, andAbilitiesKnowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisionsand interactions relative to the specific age of a patient.

Skillsvalidation/certifications of competencies for the duties andresponsibilities of this level.

Must maintain annual skill andsafety/compliance requirementsMust maintain North Carolina annuallicense requirements for CEU’s

  • Customer service and communicationexpertise.

Work involves contact with patients of all ages, familymembers, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the healthcare team.

Work is performed in all areas of the hospital.

Requiredto carry emergency airway bag weighing approximately 20 pounds.

Workrequires walking, running, climbing and bending.
