Speech Language Pathologist/Speech Therapist PRN University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Special Care Unit

• UAB Special Care Unit is an elite team of acute care professionals who treat catastrophically ill, medically complex patients requiring extended acute care.

Most patients are ventilator dependent with multiple co-morbidities. If you enjoy working in a challenging multi-disciplinary acute care environment, we need you! Speech Language Pathologists are responsible for independently utilizing discretion and judgment to provide age-appropriate services for adult to geriatric patients, including the following: comprehensive assessment of cognitive communication skills and/or swallowing function, direct treatment to individuals as prescribed by a physician, patient/family instruction, participation in team and family conferences and documentation of services according to hospital and department standards. Must possess an understanding of the physical, mental, psychological, and social needs of the patients. Job Qualifications:

1. Education

• Successful completion of an accredited

CCC-SLP. 2.

Experience

• Two years of experience in an acute care setting preferred. 3. Licensure
• Current State of Alabama SLP licensure 4. Certifications
