A Brief Overview The Speech Pathologist is responsible for evaluating, treating, andcounseling patients with speech, language, swallowing, or hearingdisorders in accordance with professional and Methodist Healthcarestandards of treatment. Provides ongoing patient assessment through observation ofpatient and records. Reports findings in a timely fashion. Identifies patient specific Speech Rehabilitation learningneeds and provides appropriate education. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities forself-development and enhancement of professionalcompetency. Performs other job functions as assigned or requested. Education/Formal Training Requirements Master’s Degree Speech Pathology Work Experience Requirements No prior work experience Licenses and Certifications Requirements Speech Pathologist Tennessee – Tennessee Board ofCommunications Disorders and Sciences Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex writtenmaterials, such as patient records. Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates,management, and physicians; ability to communicate with and serveas the example for the patients served: clear speech and acceptablepronunciation, grammar, and word usage. Ability to work without close supervision and to exerciseindependent judgment. Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintaincontrol of work flow. Supervision Provided by this Position There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned tothis job. Physical Demands The physical activities of this position may include climbing,pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling,stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are: medium work -exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs.of force frequently. The Associate is required to have close visual acuity includingcolor, depth perception, and field of vision to perform anactivity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing dataand figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; orextensive reading. Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure tohazardous or poisonous materials. Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
