Major Functions:
To provide programming and instruction for students who need assistance because of dyslexia or other reading difficulties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops a balanced program for serving students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
- Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring students for dyslexia therapy.
- Provides screening for early identification of dyslexia.
- Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists as needed.
- Provides appropriate individualized and small group programs of therapy to meet individual student needs as designated by students’ IEPs or Section 504 plans.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by making suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
- Provides information, support, and counseling to parents on dyslexia issues when appropriate.
- Completes required paperwork for Section 504 plans, Tiered Interventions, IEP development, screenings, initial evaluations, and re-evaluations.
- Follows state and district policies and procedures in serving students with dyslexia.
- Provides professional development to teachers and other district level employees in the area of dyslexia.
- Performs such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor or superintendent.
- Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all Desoto County Schools’ records.
Minimum Requirements:
Masters degree in Dyslexia Therapy. Certification as set by board and state certification authorities.
