POSITION SUMMARY
Provides treatments to patients by evaluatingthe function and selecting and applying appropriate treatments toimprove or restore function. Participates in an interdisciplinaryapproach for in servicing and community education and in theclinical education of affiliating students. Potentially may beresponsible for cross-site coverage. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONGraduate of an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology witha minimum of a M.S. Holds or is eligible for current Connecticutlicense. Is eligible, or has a Certificate of Clinical Competencyfrom the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Musthave a valid drivers’ license for occasional travel between ECHNbusiness sites.
COMPETENCIES
This position requires an individualwith strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must have basic personal computer skills in the use of Windowsbased programs such as Word, Outlook and Excel as needed fordepartment functions.

Job-Specific Competency 1. Evaluates patients based on departmentalstandard. 2. Conducts and modifies evaluations based on thepatient’s symptoms, level of activity, and medical statusestablishing individualized, appropriate, measurable goals for eachpatient. 3. Treats patients with the appropriate and acceptabletherapeutic techniques. 4. Administers physical agents (modalities)and manual therapeutic technique to attain established goals. 5.Utilizes effective techniques to assist in normalizing speech andlanguage activity. 6. Educates patients/families in home exerciseprograms and/or functional activities in order to maximizeindependent functional activity 7. Determines when a patient hasachieved maximal benefit from treatment and recommends discharge ifappropriate. 8. Documents in accordance to insurance guidelines andadheres to the department’s policies and procedures. 9. Seeks andfosters interdepartmental communication and communication with thereferring physician regarding patient care as evidenced byobservation, and chart review. 10. Accurately and consistentlyfills out and submits charges daily. 11. Adheres to theprofessional code of ethics established by the ASHA and thefacility at all times as evidenced by observation. 12. Performs allduties with proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries.13. Supervises at least one affiliated student per year. 14.Attends a continuing education course to further/improve treatmenttechniques. 15. Participates in at least one departmentalin-service, or community in-service as evidenced by documentationof educational program.
