QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Valid South Carolina certificate with certification in speech pathology. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement. 2. Provides a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of speech-language and hearing students with disabilities. 3. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech-language and hearing disorders. 4. Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing and language disorders. 5. Provides screening to identify students with possible speech-language and hearing disorders. 6. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet the needs of individual students and to correct existing speech-language and or hearing disorders. 7. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy suggestions for the student’s daily activities. 8. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate. 9. Provides in-service education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech-language improvement. 10. Maintains thorough, ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided speech-language services. 11. Maintains correct Medicaid documentation. 12. Performs all other duties as assigned.
