The LSU Shreveport Department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist with advanced skill set and expertise working with the head and neck cancer population. The candidate must specialize in the diagnostics and management of swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation treatment. A medical speech-language pathologist (SLP) provides services for the prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation, education, and rehabilitation of patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. The SLP works closely with the patient, family, and other members of a physician-led team in providing individualized treatment. The candidate must have full competency with the swallowing diagnostics: videofluroscopic swallowing studies (MBS ImP, DIGEST) and fiberoptic endoscopic swallowing studies. The candidate must be comfortable working with multidisciplinary cancer team and holding weekly collaborations with our laryngologist and Head and Neck surgeons. Qualifications The applicant must meet the following:
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology
- Current Louisiana licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced skill set and expertise working with the head and neck cancer population. The candidate must specialize in the diagnostics and management of swallowing, jaw opening, lymphatics, and speech in head and neck cancer patients undergoing surgery and/or radiation treatment.
- The ideal candidate would also have experience with laryngeal speech and pulmonary rehabilitation in the total laryngectomy population.
Ideally, the candidate is familiar with clinical care pathways in head and neck cancer and holds certification/training with the following interventions: McNeill Dysphagia Therapy program, Pharyngocise, manual lymphatic drainage, and manual therapy/myofascial release.
- Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association or academic equivalent with clinical fellowship year pending completion.
- Skilled in rigid and flexible video strobolaryngoscopy.
