StaffThe Central Sterile Processing Technician2 is responsible for preparing supplies and equipment for useduring patient procedures achieving competency in two areas ofsterile processing. Receives, processes, stocks, and distributessupplies. Cleans and disinfects equipment requiring decontaminationor sterilization, assembly, packing, sterilization, documentation,implantable, case carts, emergency carts, and supplies to surgicalnursing units and ancillary departments assisting with dailyoperational flow.

Work Location:
UHealthTowerCleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores, and distributes medicalequipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care.
Ensuresadequate equipment and supplies are available to complete orderrequests.
Transports instruments and supplies, delivering items totheir destination within an efficient time frame prioritizingpatient safety.
Achieves and maintains productivity demand level forarea by fulfilling order requests in a timely manner for patientsfrom various hospital departments.
Sets up of decontamination andassembly workstations daily following established standard of workprocesses (SOW) for all decontamination/sterilization, preparingand assembly.
Transports case carts as requested, followingestablished safety protocols and utilizes department tool aides toprevent errors.
Assembles minor procedure instrumentation fornursing units, and all other ancillary departments. Receives andsorts medical equipment and instruments returned todecontamination, loading/unloading cart washer, emergency carts,and sterile supplies.
Adheres to infection control and utilizesuniversal precautions PPE protocols.
Participates in continuousprocess improvement and quality systems and stays abreast ofrelated departmental practice guidelines and standards from theJoint Commission, AAMI (Association for the Advancement of MedicalInstrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative RegisteredNurses).Checks equipment for functionality and reportmalfunctioning equipment immediately to leadership.
Providesreliable, high quality customer service to all department’srequests.
Prepares and distributes request orders, includingfulfilling phone order requests for supplies andequipment.
Maintains distribution of equipment, supply records, andlogbooks.
Operates and maintains documentation of varioussterilizers and processing equipment.
Maintains storage of sterilesupplies/surgical instrumentation according to facility policiesand procedures.
Provides shift report to lead technician or leaderof the pending and completed requests.
Ensures patient charges andissued supplies are given daily to lead technician or leader by endof shift. Adheres to University and unit-level policies andprocedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School orEquivalentGraduate of a Vocational Training Program in CentralSterile Processing or a Surgical Tech program required

Hold one of the following certifications.

American Heart AssociationExperience:
Any combination ofrelevant education, work experience, and/or certifications will beconsidered.
Surgical or Central Sterile Processing experiencepreferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
General knowledge ofoffice procedures and operations.
Skill in completing assignmentsaccurately and with attention to detail.
Proficiency in computersoftware (i.e. Microsoft Office).Ability to communicate effectivelyin both oral and written form.
Ability to accurately prepare andmaintain records, files, reports and correspondence.
