SUMMARY:

Prepare and maintain the many life preserving articles and pieces of equipment that are necessary to provide the utmost in both patient and employee safety and generate the utmost in patient care. Follow the direction and guidance of the Central Supply Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Receives instruments, certain linens and other materials from stock or retrieves from units within the hospital such as Operating Room, Labor & Delivery, nursing units, etc. Sorts, wraps and sterilizes equipment and supplies following written outline for preparation of a variety of surgical procedure trays, nursing unit standard supply requirements, etc. Checks condition of material and equipment to assure proper quality. Labels, stores, records and issues supplies assuring adequate levels of supplies are maintained as directed by established standards for each type of tray, item or equipment. Receives, sorts, inspects, folds and sterilizes a variety of linen, gowns, surgical drapes and the like. Receives requests from units for supplies via requisition or verbal request. Pulls good from regular stock inventory and prepares records for charges to unit. Operates steam and gas sterilizers to assure proper sterilization of instruments, dressings, linen, etc. Remains alert to identified or suspected malfunction of equipment and notifies supervisor immediately. Following established procedure, records temperature, dates lot control number, and other data required to assure proper serialization and re-sterilization records and recall if necessary. Restocks nursing unit supply carts and the like to assure adequate and timely availability of supplies. Restocks shelves as needed and rotates stock to assure timely use or removal for reprocessing. Cleans shelves, stocks areas, sterilizes sinks and counters, etc. in compliance with departmental calendar to maintain work area in safe and clean orderly manner. Performs performance improvement testing of equipment following established departmental procedures and refers results to supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required Degree High School Diploma or GED Required Certification/Licensure If hired after 04/01/2025 Certification by the Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) upon hire or must obtain within two years of hire.

Previous Central Service experience Ability to read, interpret and understand charts and gauges associated with sterilization equipment Ability to maintain records, interpret established procedures, etc. Good interpersonal skills required to work effectively with co-workers and other hospital staff.

PAY RANGE

$17.10•$23.10 The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
