A Surgical Technologist First Assistant (Surgical First Assist)plays a critical role in the operating room by directly assistingthe surgeon during surgical procedures. This role involvesproviding advanced technical support, including suturing, tissuemanipulation, and hemostasis, while ensuring the sterile field ismaintained. The Surgical First Assist collaborates with thesurgical team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the surgeon by providing hands-on support duringsurgical procedures, including retracting tissues, suturing, andapplying surgical instruments. Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical equipment,instruments, and sterile drapes according to procedure-specificrequirements. Ensure patient positioning is correct and safe, applyingnecessary supports and padding. Provide hemostasis by using suction, clamps, cauterization, orother techniques to control bleeding. Perform wound closure and apply surgical dressings as directedby the surgeon. Monitor and maintain the sterile field, ensuring adherence toinfection control and aseptic techniques. Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate the surgeon’sneeds during the procedure, ensuring all necessary instruments andsupplies are readily available. • and post-operative instrument and equipment countswith the circulating nurse to ensure accuracy.

Maintain and troubleshoot surgical instruments and equipment,reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.

Qualifications:

Education:

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologyprogram is required. Advanced training or certification in surgicalfirst assisting is preferred.

Certification:

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) orCertified First Assistant (CFA) credential through a recognizedorganization such as NBSTSA or NSAA is required.

Experience:

Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a SurgicalTechnologist, with specific experience in first assistingpreferred.

Licensure:
