Role:
The Scrub Tech plays a critical role in supporting surgical teams by preparing and maintaining the sterile field during surgical procedures. This position ensures that all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, organized, and readily available to surgeons and nurses, thereby facilitating efficient and safe operations. The Scrub Tech collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other operating room staff to anticipate procedural needs and respond promptly to any changes during surgery. Attention to detail and adherence to strict infection control protocols are essential to minimize the risk of contamination and promote patient safety. Ultimately, the Scrub Tech contributes significantly to the successful outcome of surgical interventions and the overall quality of patient care within the healthcare facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited surgical technology program. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligibility to obtain certification. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Prior experience in a surgical or operating room environment is preferred but not mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a hospital or surgical center setting. Advanced certifications such as Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA). Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and surgical documentation software. Strong knowledge of various surgical specialties and procedures. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Responsibilities:
Prepare the operating room by setting up sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to surgical procedures. Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sponges, and other sterile supplies as needed. Maintain the sterile field throughout the procedure, ensuring compliance with infection control standards. Inspect and clean surgical instruments and equipment after use, ensuring proper sterilization and storage. Collaborate with the surgical team to anticipate procedural needs and respond quickly to changes during surgery. Document surgical procedures and instrument counts accurately to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Participate in inventory management by monitoring and ordering surgical supplies to maintain adequate stock levels. Adhere to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements related to surgical services.
