We are currently seeking a Full-Time, Certified Surgical Technologist, First Assist, to join our Surgical Team!

Duties and Responsibilities:

Certified Surgical Tech First Assistant provides aid in exposure, haemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions which help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient.
The surgical assistant performs these functions during the operation under the direction and supervision of the surgeon and in accordance with hospital policy and appropriate laws and regulations.
Maintain BLS and CSTFA certifications
Performs job functions within the scope of a CSTFA and hospital policies

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Able to respond to the hospital within call response time Able to basic CST skills and knowledge in the surgical environmen Ability to function in a collaborative environment principles of aseptic technique and infection prevention
Knowledge of sterilization and decontamination parameters
Recognize safety hazards and initiate appropriate corrective action knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to operative procedure
Perform patient positioning, prepping, and draping
Provide hemostasis by clamping blood vessels, coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, and by other means as directed by the surgeon
Provide exposure through appropriate use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques
Handle tissue as directed by the surgeon during the surgical procedure
Perform wound closure as directed by the surgeon of fascia, subcutaneous tissue and skin. Surgeon must close peritoneum. May only insert trocars under direct physician vision, not initial trocar surgical dressings
Assist with transferring the patient from the operating room
Practice within limitations of preparation and experience
Maintain continuing education relative to practice
Verify correct sponge and sharp count
Proper labeling and handling of various types of specimens
Manual dexterity and visual acuity principles of ethics and legal limitations

Education/Licensure/Certifications/Qualifications:

Graduate from surgical assisting programs accredited through ARC/STSA. or
Graduated from an educational institution which is institutionally accredited by agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE), The Joint Commission, or a state agency acceptable to CAAHEP and the

ARC/STSA.

Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
BLS upon day of hire, and maintained while in position York Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer
