Previous oral surgery experience is a plus but notrequired. The role of the Surgical Dental Assistant is critical inproviding exceptional patient care resulting in the best clinicaloutcomes and meeting the needs of our patients. Role andResponsibilities The Surgical Dental Assistant will help surgeonsduring surgery by performing duties such as tissue retraction,intravenous lines, and completing documentation.
- Performspreoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
- Verifies the identity of patients and operative sites.
- Discusseswith surgeon the nature of the surgical procedure includingoperative consent and methods of operative exposure.
- Monitors andmaintains aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Maintains anunobstructed operative field using surgical retractors, sponges,and suctioning and irrigating equipment.
- Determines availabilityof necessary equipment and supplies for operative procedures.
- Obtains and inspects sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment,supplies and instruments.
- Operates sterilization devices.
- Monitors patient intraoperative status.
- Obtains dentalradiographs and dental imaging.
- Completes patient clinicalnarratives.
- Other related duties as assigned. Education andExperience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- BLScertification required or the ability to complete within 1 month ofhire.
- At Least one year of related experience preferred.
- DAANCEcertification preferred.
- Licensed dental assistant preferred.
- Radiology certification preferred. Skills and Abilities
- Basiccomputer knowledge.
- Ability to work well in a team andindividually.
- Good Judgment and critical thinking skills.
- Passion for keeping people safe.
- Strong attention to detail,vigilance, and meticulous care on the job.
- Excellent manualdexterity.
- Superior listening skills with the ability to quicklycomprehend instructions in emergency situations.
- Basic knowledgeof medical terminology.
