General Description:

Under the general supervision of the Perioperative Services Managerand under the direct supervision of the Surgery ClinicalCoordinator and the OR Registered Nurse, the Surgical ScrubTechnician provides support and assistance in the care of thepatient undergoing invasive and other surgical procedures and inthe preparation of supplies and the Operating Room for procedures.

The position shall exemplify the desired Culture of Choice andphilosophies of Parrish Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

Functions as a member of the surgical team for invasive andnon-invasive procedures, maintains the integrity of the sterilefield, provides for safe handling and labeling of medications andother solutions, monitors the field to provide for completion ofaccurate needle, sponge and instrument counts. Assembles and opens supplies and equipment, prepares the ORsuite for invasive and non-invasive procedures and anticipatesvariations of case specific supply needs. Provides for safehandling of equipment/instruments to minimize damage. Provides for timely room turnover, including cleansing of thesurgical site, application of dressings, instrument breakdown androom decontamination. Performs assist circulating duties, positions patients, assistsanesthesiologist, transports patients and assists with directpatient care as appropriate. Participates as a member of the emergency surgical team andresponds to emergency call within 20 minutes fromnotification. Maintains accuracy of specialty instrument sets, restocksspecialty carts and provides for updates of physician preferencecards. Maintains safe handling of equipment to prevent damage andloss. Mark and reports broken/damaged instrument forreplacement. Participates in Quality Monitoring/Performance Improvement.

Incorporates Evidence Based practices into daily care. Demonstrates a full knowledge of surgical procedures andfunctions as a member of specialty team. Participates in Quality Monitoring/PerformanceImprovement. Performs similar or related duties as assigned. Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations asit pertains to the work area.

Requirements:
Formal Education:

Vocational or other technical school, certification, licensure,training or apprenticeship in a healthcare related field requiredbeyond high school.

Work Experience:

1 year to

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

Surgical Scrub Technologist (CST) certification required. BLS through The American Heart Association required.
