Performs a variety oftechnical duties to assist in preparing and caring forpre-operative patients. Prepares patient skin for surgery inaccordance with hospital standards. Maintains aseptic techniques;actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptictechnique. Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patientsby demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy.

Transports patients to and from the Operating Room suite. Positionspatients according to the type of surgery. Identifies and cares forbiological specimens. Prepares the Operating Room by setting uptables, instruments, and supplies according to type of case.

  • Under the direction of a professional nurse,performs all processes that relate to the delivery of directpatient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during anysurgical procedure.
  • Ability to proficiently scrub 3 specialtyareas including but not limited to: Transplants, Open Heart,Urology, Neurology, Titanium Rib, Robotics, etc. is highlypreferred.
  • Establishes and maintains the sterile field, passesinstruments, and sutures to the physician, and assists as directedby the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card as abeginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR.
  • Ensuresthat preference cards are kept up to date and as complete aspossible.
  • Works effectively as a member of the team caring forthe patient.
  • Cooperates in team planning and execution.
  • Maintains a safe environment by always implementing technical andaseptic practices.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the use andcare of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Adheres to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and ownsafety in all patient care situations.
  • Demonstrates competency tomonitor and control the surgical environment. Maintains propertraffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitationpolicies and procedures.
  • Familiar with facility policy andprocedure regarding decontamination, processing, and sterilizationof all instruments and supplies that are processed within thefacility.
  • Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patientcare responsibilities in a manner that meets thepopulation-specific and developmental needs of patients served bythe department.
  • Appropriately adapt assigned patient assessment,treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical,psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needsof each patient served.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
JobRequirements:

Education/Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalentis required
  • Completion of the Surgical Technology program or anaccredited LVN/LPN program is required Experience
  • 2 or more yearsof experience preferred Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • BLS required
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from TheNational Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required
