Required Qualifications:
One year ofrecent experience as a Surgical First Assistant
- TechnologistCertified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA or CRNFA) certificationsCurrent Surgical Technologist Certification Current BLS (AHA/ ARC)
Certification Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS (AHA /ARC)certifications Other certifications and licenses may be requiredfor this position
Summary:
The Surgical First Assistant isresponsible for providing advanced care directly assisting surgeonsthroughout surgical procedures. Responsibilities can includepreoperative patient assessment, intraoperative assistance, andpostoperative care management. The position requires exceptionalsurgical skills, critical thinking abilities, excellentcommunication, and a commitment to maintaining the higheststandards of patient safety and professional ethics in theoperating room environment.
Essential Work Functions:
Assist thesurgeon during operative procedures by providing exposure,hemostasis, and other technical functions that help the surgeonperform a safe operation with optimal results for the patientPosition, prep, and drape patients for surgery according toestablished protocols to ensure sterility and safety Anticipate theneeds of the surgeon and surgical team by providing the appropriatesurgical instruments, supplies, and equipment Perform woundclosure, dressing application, and other technical tasks asdirected by the surgeon Maintain sterile techniques and promptlyaddress any breaches to ensure patient safety Monitor patient’scondition intraoperatively, report changes to the surgeon, andrespond appropriately to emergent situations Observe and documentpatient information as needed within scope of practice Activelyparticipate in Universal Protocol and timeout to confirm patientidentity, procedure, surgical site and adhere to all safetyprotocols Ensure the availability and functionality of surgicalmachines, instruments, and implants, addressing any issues promptlyCollaborate with the surgical team, including anesthesiologists,circulating nurses, and scrub techs, to ensure efficient workflowand patient safety Stay informed on advancements in surgicaltechniques, robotics, and perioperative care through continuingeducation Perform other duties as assigned within the scope ofpractice Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection controlguidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonalcommunication skills The ability to read, write, & communicate inthe English language is required Ability to read/comprehend writteninstructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PCskills Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills
- To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism Technical/Motor Skills
- Ability tograsp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move aboutwhen assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.

- Must be able to cope with frequent contactwith the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines underpressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionallyas well as working without assistance from other personnel.
