Overview:
The Birthplace Technician coordinates the surgicalscrub duties to care for patients in the Birthplace unit. Workingunder close supervision, this role supports the surgical teamthrough routine work related to managing equipment and spaces,performing routine checks, and documenting patient information.
Responsibilities:
Observes and reports any changes noted in apatient’s condition in order for the circulating nurse to alter thetreatment plan accordingly. Coordinates equipment by counting,checking, and obtaining sterile medical supplies in the labor anddelivery and operating rooms so that physicians are prepared forany procedure or surgery. Documents intraoperative and intrapartumcare so that accurate hospital data records are completed. Assiststhe circulating nurse by identifying, labelling, and preservingsurgical specimens for future study. Utilizes communicationdevices, including phones, patient call lights, and pagers in orderto serve as a liaison with the public as needed. Collaborates withcolleagues on strategies to accomplish the given department orprogram objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION
Required:
High School Diploma orequivalent; Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology orequivalent military training with surgical technologist experience
EXPERIENCE
Required:
1 year
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING
Required:
CertifiedSurgical Technologist or Certification eligible. Certificationsshould come from the National Board of Surgical Technology andSurgical Assisting, Must successfully sit and pass Certificationexamination within 12 months from employment hire/start date. ForSurgical Technologist hired prior to 12/31/2017, certificationrequirement will be waived. BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHAHealthcare Provider
