Summary:
The Lead Surgical Technologist applies their extensive expertise in the theory and application of sterile aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to both perform in an individual contributor role and to coordinate surgical service line operations. This peer leader coordinates the operations of the surgical tech team to optimize patient outcomes using available resources.

1. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients to facilitate a surgeon’s performance of invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. 2. Ensure readiness of necessary personnel, equipment, and supplies for service line operation (eg, scheduling, preference cards). Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change. 3. Act as peer leader during service line operations. Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to the service line team, including technical support and troubleshooting of system malfunctions. Assist the team during new or specialized procedures. 4. Promote a safe and effective workplace through quality best practices, cultural competency and effective conflict resolution techniques. 5. Oversee the coordination of inventory management for single-use items, reprocessing of reusable items, and maintenance procedures. Maintain awareness of the details of maintenance and replacement contracts. 6. Collaborate with the Surgical Services leadership and the educator on surgical services personnel education and competency. Consult with management team to provide feedback during performance management and talent acquisition processes. 7. Identify expected patient and program outcomes and participates in long-term goal setting and planning for Surgical Services, including instrument usage and cost analysis calculations. 8. Participate in quality and performance improvement activities in areas of focus, including those that overlap with other operations areas. 9. Advocate for the privacy, safety and care objectives of patients as well as their protected health information. 10. Consult as clinical resource for perioperative service team using subject matter expertise. Develop and maintain expertise through evidence, guidelines, regulatory and accreditation standards, organizational policies and procedures and/or external professional affiliations.

Required for
Surgical Technologists:
- Graduate from a Surgical Technology program
- National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting certification (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including common word processing software
Preferred:
- 3 years of Clinical Practice as a surgical tech
- 1-3 years’ experience with service line coordination
- Advanced computer skills (eg, Microsoft® PowerPoint, Excel) 01.
