Job Description:

• Performstechnical skill duties in all operating room specialty serviceareas, ensuring that proper technical practices are employedaccording to accepted standards of process.
• Provides propermaintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization techniques ofspecialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique.
• Proactively identifies contamination and/or breaks in aseptictechnique and implements corrective actions.
• Performs surgicalcounts.
• Follows policies and procedures for incorrect counts andreports discrepancies appropriately.
• Labels drugs and solutions;monitors quantities used.
• Assists in the proper identification,preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Actively participates in the planning and set up of instruments,supplies, and surgical drapes in an organized manner to provideoptimal accessibility during the procedure.
• Assists the surgeon,demonstrating an understanding of the patient’s anatomy andabnormalities which affect the surgical procedure.
• Assists inpicking cases and planning of instrument needs.
• Recognizes andmodifies scrubbing procedures based on pertinent information todevelop modifications to standard approaches to care andcommunicates with the surgical team.
• Responds to surgicalemergencies and follows hospital-wide emergency management plans.
• Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under the direction ofSurgical Services leadership.
• Identifies and reports defectiveinstruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Assists with restockingoperating/procedure rooms and sub-sterile areas.
• Assists theregistered nurse during the intraoperative implementation phase ofnursing practice.
• Operates complex equipment and other resourcesin the operating room, troubleshooting as necessary.
• Serves as amentor for Surgical Technician Trainees and will serve as apreceptor as needed.
