POSITION SUMMARY

The Operating Room Technician Lead serves as a clinical resource for Surgical Tech staff. Creates an environment for the delivery of safe patient care and assists others in developing their skills and knowledge. This position demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to carry out delegated tasks associated with the safe and efficient operating room support functions and related procedures. The Operating Room Technician Lead also performs any and all duties associated as an Operating Room Technician as needed. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED required. This position requires the successful completion of an accredited OR Technician program. This position also requires passing the CST exam and maintaining certification.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

has successfully completed a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for surgical technologists; or holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor, or other nationally recognized credentialing organization; or has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; or provides evidence that the person was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility on the effective date of this act; or is in the service of the federal government, to the extent that individual is performing surgical technology duties related to that service. TSC or CST Certified required upon hire. Requirements are grandfathered if evidence is provided to show the incumbent was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility on December 21 st 2011.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Operating Room Technician required. Masters 3 or more of the listed service lines such as: Robotics, General, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and/or Thoracic. Experience specifically Neurosurgery, and Orthopedics preferred. This position is required to lead and motivate others; must pass and demonstrate skills and competency upon clinical orientation to the unit; and must be able to write and speak effectively in English. Knowledge of medical terminology is also required.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the technical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires desk/computer work a majority of the time. This position requires some standing and walking and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds required. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
