Overview:
Scrubs on surgical procedures and assists the professional nurse to create and maintain aseptic standards for a proper, safe surgical environment.
Responsibilities:
Treatment and Patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Carries out accepted scrub, gown and gloving techniques. Follows recommended sequence in organizing sterile supplies, instruments and sutures; understands specific uses of all instruments, equipment and supplies used for the surgical procedure. Sets up sterile tray; checks for completeness and proper functioning of equipment and supplies. Maintains neat and orderly back table and mayo tray to facilitate surgeon requests and provide patient care in a timely fashion. Carries out sponge, instrument and needle counts. Assists all scrubbed personnel in gowning and gloving Hands instruments to the surgeon, has sponges, instruments, sutures, medications and solutions ready as needed. Saves and hands to circulating nurse all cultures and specimens taken during surgery. Assists in dressing the surgical site. Assists in the removal of all instruments and supplies for the disposition after surgery is completed. Assists with positioning, transfer and transport of patients as assigned. Utilizes established channels of communication to report significant changes in patient condition, problems with equipment, instrumentation, supplies, etc. Responds appropriately in crisis situations by demonstrating knowledge of emergency procedures, remaining calm, and functioning properly in emergencies. Performs CPR. Checks to ensure that emergency equipment is on hand and in good working order. Recognizes and reports malfunction or failure of equipment used in the OR to Biomedical Engineering; takes appropriate action to repair/replace such equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, defibrillators, suction apparatus, etc.).
Qualifications:
Education:
High school graduation plus at least 1 year of Operating Room experience required. Graduation from an approved surgical technologists program recommended, or significant experience in Peri-operative Services performing the duties of a Surgical Tech. Certification as an Operating Room Technologist by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred.

Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room experience or a suitable combination of education and experience required.
Skills:
Skills related to the sterilization and instrumentation and aseptic technique. Good oral communication skills. Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Pay Range:
USD $44.37 – USD $44.37 /Hr.
