Short (through AHA or RQIspecifically) requiredOR Tech certification requiredComplete ScrubTechnician participates as a team member in the planning andimplementation of nursing care for each patient. She/He willdemonstrate an ability to work with the medical, nursing, andancillary services to provide safe patient care. The Scrub Techdemonstrates a professional, courteous manner, and handlesconfidential information with discretion for the patient and theirfamily.
Demonstrates the ability to clean instruments and ensuresterility is achieved by utilizing the appropriate procedures.
Recognizes successful completion of steam autoclave and automatedhigh level disinfectant units.
Selects equipment and supplies in anorganized manner, based on Surgical Procedure. Demonstratescompetence in preparing instrument sets according to preferencelists, patient history, and age. Utilizes suppliescost-effectively. Demonstrates ability to handle and operatesophisticated equipment. Detects and readily adapts to changes insurgical proceduresCreates and Maintains Sterile Field. Maintainsaseptic technique at all times in accordance with AORN Standards.
Demonstrates ability to open and handle sterile supplies, propersurgical hand scrubbing, donning sterile gown and gloves, settingup sterile field, receiving sterile supplies from the circulator,and assisting in proper draping of the patient. Initiatescorrective measures when break in sterile technique occurs.
Demonstrates ability to work with the medical and nursing staff inproviding safe patient care. Uses care with sharps to preventinjury or contamination. Follows policies and procedures for countsand maintains adequate count of all countable items on the sterilefield. Initiates proper protocol when counts are incorrect.
Accurately draws up medication with proper labeling of allsolutions and syringes. Serves as a preceptor and mentor to newemployees.
Assesses surgical environment for safety, cleanliness,and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
Supports a state of continual service readiness. Ensures a clean,safe, and orderly work and care environment.
