Work where you matter. ABrief Overview Responds and assists the professional nursing staffand Physicians during the pre-procedure, procedure, and postprocedure period. This position will assist with procedure roomset-up, equipment cleaning and maintenance, pre and post procedureassistance as directed by the Registered Nurse as well as enteringand maintaining inventory control and clerical duties for thedepartment. What you will do Prepares the Operating Room forsurgical procedures in a timely fashion. This may include, not belimited to: organizing equipment and needed instruments; setting upquickly and accurately for emergency cases; assuring proper andadequate equipment for all cases. Assists the surgeon as the firstor second scrub person during surgical procedures. Maintains asterile field at all times in the procedure area. Maintainsefficiency in handling surgical instruments at physician’s request.
Verifies specimens with surgeons and nurses. Assists thecirculating nurse to account for all instruments, needles, andsponges involved with the surgical procedure. Achieves andmaintains working knowledge of all OR machinery and equipment usedon the sterile field (i.e., lasers, scope equipment, and electricand nitrogen motors). Receives and verifies correct implants forall surgical procedures (i.e., grafts, orthopedic hardware,allograft etc.). Assists with on-the-job training and orientationof new staff and students. Assists in transporting of patients tothe O.R. when necessary. Performs decontamination, assembly andsterilization, according to Infection Control and established QAmonitoring guidelines as demonstrated by annual competency review.
Operates sterilization equipment which includes: steam and hydrogenperoxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, andautomated cart washer. Operates equipment according to manufactureroperational directions and in a manner that ensures the safety ofthe operator as demonstrated by annual competency review. Utilizesdesktop and laptop computers and handheld PDA for instrumentdecontamination, assembly and tracking functions. EssentialQualifications The individual must be able to work the hoursspecified.
