- Required A person may not practice surgical technology in ahealth care facility unless the person meets one of the followingrequirements: (a) has successfully completed an accreditededucational program for surgical technologists and holds andmaintains the Surgical Technologist Certification administered bythe National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting,or its successor; however, upon completion of an accreditededucation program for surgical technologists, graduates maypractice for up to three months before completing certification bythe National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting,or its successor; (b) has completed an appropriate training programfor surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force,Marine Corps, or Coast Guard or in the United States Public HealthService; (c) provides evidence that the person was employed topractice surgical technology in a health care facility in thisState prior to January 1, 2008; or (d) is in the service of thefederal government, to the extent the person is performing dutiesrelated to that service.

Job Summary:
To provide safecare for patients following established standards and practices inaccordance with professional and hospital standards.
Contacts:
Constant interaction with internal and external customers toinclude (but not limited to) patients, families, physicians,employees and visitors. 1. Assists in the coordination of patientcare: Assists registered nurse in planning patient care.
Collaborates with other health team members. Participates inperformance improvement activities. Acts in the role of supportduring the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistantduring the surgical procedure. 2.
Implements patient care:
Createsand maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicatespatient information to the appropriate persons. Accounts for allequipment and supplies used in patient care. 3.
Interpersonalskills:
Communicates with peers, other health team members,patients, visitors. Maintains adaptability. Supports teamworkwithin the department and units. Resolves problems. Consistentlymeets the department’s Customer Service Quality Standards. 4.
Clinical preceptor:
Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbingand follows orientation outline, collaborating with the patientcare coordinator, educator/Clinical Nurse Specialist. 5.
Care ofenvironment and equipment:
Maintains cleanliness in unit. Maintainsand cleans equipment. Held responsible for the equipment use andcare in which is used during the surgical case. Performs other jobduties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to providepatient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions toestablish a safe work environment. Other:
Ability to organize andprioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. Thisposition has limited access to Medication Rooms. Medications shouldnot be handled at any time. Any questions should be directed toyour supervisor or the charge nurse of the unit in question.

Frequent standing for long periods of time,walking, bending, crouching, stooping. Frequent lifting/movingpatients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying up to 50 lbs.
Frequent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use offinger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms andtwisting. Frequent talking and/or hearing. Corrected hearing andvision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseasesand/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment.
Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
Moderate to high noise level in work area. Requires work understressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours.
