POSITION SUMMARY
The Surgical Technician plays a vital role in the operating room byassisting the surgical team in procedures. This position isresponsible for ensuring a sterile environment, handling surgicalinstruments, preparing patients for surgery, and supportingsurgeons during procedures. The Surgical Technician mustdemonstrate advanced knowledge of surgical protocols, aseptictechniques, and ophthalmic instrumentation. This role requires ahigh level of attention to detail, technical expertise, and theability to work efficiently in a fast-paced surgicalenvironment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and maintain the sterile field in the operating room. Ensure all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment areproperly sterilized and readily available. Assist in patient positioning, draping, and preparation forsurgery. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide appropriateinstruments and materials during procedures. Operate and troubleshoot surgical equipment, including microscopes,phacoemulsification systems, and laser devices. Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon in an efficient andprecise manner. Monitor and maintain a sterile environment, following infectioncontrol protocols. Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, and dressing application asdirected by the surgeon. Manage specimen collection and labeling in accordance with facilitypolicies. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments followingproper protocols. Assist in transporting patients to recovery areas as needed. Restock surgical supplies and ensure equipment is in proper workingcondition for future procedures. Document surgical counts, instrument usage, and any intraoperativecomplications or variances. Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, OSHA, andsterilization standards. Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments to stayup to date with surgical techniques and best practices. Collaborate with surgical teams to identify areas for improvementin efficiency, patient safety, andworkflow.________________________________________
REQUIREMENTS
An associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or arelated field is preferred. 3 years of progressive clinical experience in place of degreeconsidered. Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology required. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required. Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting,preferably in ophthalmology. Positive attitude and a love for helping others! Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office and electronichealth records is preferred. Dependable transportation is required to travel to other offices asneeded. Must be flexible when traveling to various locations as needed. Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection controlpractices, and surgical instrumentation. Proficiency in handling ophthalmic surgical equipment, includingphacoemulsification and laser systems. Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeonneeds. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced surgicalenvironment. Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate withsurgical staff, anesthesiologists, and nursing teams. ________________________________________
