Ultrasound Technician Job Description Job Overview An Ultrasound Technician (also known as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) is responsible for using specialized ultrasound equipment to create images of a patient’s internal organs, tissues, and blood flow. These images assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. Key Responsibilities Operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality images of internal body structures. Prepare patients for procedures, explain the process, and ensure their comfort. Evaluate ultrasound images for quality and clarity, ensuring accuracy for diagnosis. Work with physicians and medical teams to interpret findings and provide critical imaging data. Maintain and calibrate ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Document and record patient information accurately in medical records. Adhere to safety and infection control protocols. Stay up-to-date with advancements in ultrasound technology and best practices. Required Qualifications & Skills Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field. Certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or an equivalent credential. Strong understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction. Attention to detail and the ability to analyze ultrasound images effectively.
