Description:
Must be flexible with work hours tomeet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, andcooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care topatients by performing all exams per department protocols.
Possesses the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnosticstudies safely. Responsible for performing a wide variety oftechnical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, andinitiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets upthe equipment to provide imaging services and positions patientsfor procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures. Obtains completeclinical histories, gathers examination data, and assesses forcontraindicating conditions. Ensures that all studies have properpatient identification and appropriate markers. Reviews ultrasoundimages for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
Responds to emergency situations and maintains life supportequipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities whenneeded. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations forphysician intervention. Ensures patients’ privacy and comfort aremaintained, respecting their dignity throughout exams. Demonstratescompetence in determining and applying appropriate procedures andtechniques based on patients’ ages. Organizes schedules andpriorities to accomplish required activities within designated timeframes. Follows physicians’ instructions when assisting withprocedures and exams. Uses critical thinking skills andcommunicates effectively with patients and families. Addressespatients’ questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily,notifying physicians when necessary. Participates in theorientation and training of departmental employees. Providespreparatory instructions and explanations to patients. Ensuresrequired documentation is concise, legible, and uses preciseterminology. Reads emails daily as scheduled and follows throughwith assignments. Completes mandatory departmental andhospital-wide education independently.
Quality Control:
Consistently produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedbackand quality audits. Ensures equipment is fully operational beforeuse by checking for calibration and deficiencies. Sends all studiesto PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RISbefore completing in PACS. Maintains quality control logs for probedisinfection and follows infection control policies.
Operations:
Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean and orderlydepartment. Transports and positions patients, assisting them onand off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities onthe day of service. Applies supportive and immobilization devicesand equipment as needed. Assists others routinely, using timeeffectively for departmental advantage. Performs clerical andsupport duties as necessary to ensure continuity and quality ofservices. Keeps supervisor informed of responsibilities regularly,notifying them of any problems. Maintains productivity comparableto co-workers. Maintains Joint Commission standards and otherregulatory agency standards. Takes call when necessary.
Equipment:
Demonstrates the ability to adjust techniques to ensure patientsafety and image quality. Reports equipment malfunctions tosupervisors for timely correction. Cleans, disinfects, andmaintains equipment following infection control policies. Performsother duties as assigned. Complies with all departmental policies,standards of work, and codes of conduct.
